How iHire’s Resume Writing Services Work: Step-by-Step Guide

Are you interested in working with iHire’s certified professional resume writers but want to learn more about the process? Have you just signed up to have your resume rewritten by our team and have questions about what’s next? Then you’re in the right place!

This guide will walk you through each step of the process and how to best work with your assigned writer.

1. Upload your latest resume and fill out your questionnaire.

First, ensure that you’ve uploaded your most recent resume to your iHire account. Next, you will receive a confirmation email after you complete your purchase containing a link to a questionnaire.

While we’ll use your resume to fill in some sections automatically to help you get started, the questionnaire asks for further information about your professional history, achievements, education, and more. Expand on your experience and accomplishments to give your writer more information and enable them to create the strongest possible resume for you.

In terms of achievements, your writer is looking for quantifiable accomplishments, but most importantly, they’re looking for the kinds of projects you are most proud of. Describe a challenge, the solution, and the result. Consider how many people you worked with to achieve this, what their titles were, any obstacles you faced, or any additional details that give important context. There are no wrong answers!

2. Submit your questionnaire.

Make sure you have fully submitted the questionnaire. If you sign into your iHire portfolio, there should be no dialogue boxes prompting you to finish your questionnaire. Instead, you should see this message indicating that your resume writer is working on your project:

3. Schedule a call with your resume writer.

iHire's resume writing services are highly personalized. A certified professional resume writer will be assigned to you once you submit your questionnaire. You will receive an introductory email with a link to their calendar to schedule a free 30-minute consultation. During the call, you and your writer will further discuss your professional history, your answers to the questionnaire, and any further relevant details.

4. Monitor your inbox and respond quickly to any follow-up questions.

Your writer may email you for more information, even after your call. The faster you can respond, the faster you’ll have a complete draft in your hands! Once your writer has all the details they need, you’ll receive a finished draft via email as Word and PDF files within seven business days.

5. Promptly review your draft.

Compile any edits, concerns, or questions to your writer in one email, and feel free to make small edits yourself to the Word version. Request another phone call if necessary to go over anything you’d like to change. Make sure you do this within 30 days to avoid a reopening fee.

6. Use your new resume!

You’re now ready to apply to jobs with your professionally written resume! While your new resume will be highly targeted to your goals, make sure you’re adjusting it to fit specific job ads and use the right file type when applying online or emailing your resume to hiring managers. If you have questions about how to do this, feel free to reach out to your resume writer or Career Advisor if you are a Premium member.
