JOB GOAL: The goal of Adapted Physical Education is for students to become physically literate individuals, self- advocates, and gain lifelong physical, health, and wellness skills. An Adapted Physical Education teacher ensures that a student with a disability has access to a physical education program designed and modified to meet the learners unique needs.
Essential and Marginal FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides direct services to students with disabilities in self-contained and inclusive physical education settings.
- Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of health and physical education content.
- Modifies and adapts the School District of Lancasters Health and Physical Education Curriculum to instruct students with disabilities.
- Understanding of various physical, intellectual, social, and emotional disabilities.
- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity and recognizes equity and inclusivity as foundations in teaching our students.
- Creates and implements an adapted physical education department schedule.
- Travels around SDoL to teach in various buildings.
- Collaborates and consults with the Adapted Physical Education Department, Physical Education Department, and Special Education Department.
- Collaborates with IEP/504 team members in order to provide appropriate physical education programming for students with disabilities.
- Collects ongoing data to monitor student progress to ensure continuous student growth and implement appropriate accommodations.
- Provides input to the IEP/504 team and involvement in the IEP/504 process.
- Maintains effective communication with parents/guardians of students, as needed.
- Creates and organizes external activities and events (i.e., field day, adapted aquatics, field trips, etc.)
- Maintains and improves professional competence by attending external training and educational conferences.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain equipment inventory.
- Manage emergency situations.
- Perform safety checks on all equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A person holding a valid and active Pennsylvania teaching certificate in the area of Health and Physical Education K-12 is qualified to teach all health and physical education courses in grades K-12.
- Highly recommended to have experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Must be able to organize a classroom to deliver the School District of Lancaster Physical Education/Dance program.
- Strong communication and motivational skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with, instruct, and work with students, staff and parents.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be determined according to Teacher Contract Evaluation.
