  • &nbsp&nbsp POSITION SUMMARY:
    Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) seeks a full-time High School Math Teacher at the CREC Academy of International Studies in Bloomfield, CT to prepare and deliver mathematics curriculum and instructional activities to develop high school students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical problems.     Secondary Math teachers work under the general supervision of their school principal performing the essential performance responsibilities listed below.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Develop mathematics curriculum consistent with school goals.
    • Coordinate with other professional staff members and participate in all required meetings (department, team, etc.).
    • Provide appropriate feedback to students and parents/family and encourage parent/family participation.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize instruction time.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress.
    • Modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs and conducting individual and small group instruction as needed.
    • Maintain familiarity with district and Connecticut State standardized tests for purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
    • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field through attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or conducting research.
    • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
    • Ensure that student conduct conforms to school standards and school district policies and establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning classroom atmosphere.
    • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and other supplies and equipment and maintain inventory records.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelors degree in Mathematics or a directly related field of study or the foreign equivalent.
    • Certification by the State of Connecticut Department of Education as a Mathematics Education Teacher (endorsement code 029 or 229).
    • Knowledge of the following: current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles; a wide range of mathematic subject areas, including arithmetic equations, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and other related areas; applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
    • Must have ability to effectively gather, interpret, and utilize data to inform instructional decisions and set actionable goals for student growth and achievement.

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
    Travel to other school district buildings and professional meetings in CT is required approximately four times per year. Must have a Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
