POSITION: SPECIAL EDUCATION AIDE

RESPONSIBLE TO: BUILDING PRINCIPAL / SPECIAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR

JOB GOAL: To assist the identified student(s), who are enrolled in the regular education or special education program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

? High school diploma or GED

? One to two years related experience preferred

? Required to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds

? Willing to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

? Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate

? Educational Aide Permit from the State Board of Education

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintain a professional attitude toward confidential information.

2. Be familiar with the current IEP and its implementation.

3. Assist student(s) in meeting daily living needs.

4. Assist with student’s academic needs, as determined by the IEP and teacher direction.

5. Assist the identified student(s) during individual and small group instruction, implementing behavior management plans, tutoring, etc.

6. Assist the classroom instructor with disaster drills, field trips, parent conferences, recess, etc.

7. Seek assistance from immediate supervisor or special education coordinator as needed.

8. Perform any other duties as assigned by building principal or special education coordinator as pertains to job goals.

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Special Education Director and the Building Principals in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.
